Kite is getting easier to fly as we get used to the operation etc.

Hi Steeve,
What is the kite’s size, and how is it determined in relation to the ship ?
Have a good trip.
Olaf
Hi Olaf
It is a 10 square metre Kite, it was based on the recommendation by the kite supplier. We would like to try a larger kite, but you also have to consider how we launch such a large kite from the bow.
Thanks
Why not have a couple wind turbines, in addition to the solar – that way you would even charge at nigth.. (assuming there’s a wind 🙂 ) – maybe this would allow you to push for a little more speed, with over use of the gen
Hi John
Wind Turbines do not really work as a 1200mm diameter wind turbine will only add around 200Wh in 20 knots of wind. The noise is not acceptable either.
Think what it would do to the lines of the yacht also.
Hello Steve,
What is the speed gain as a result of flying this kite?
Morning Michael
The kite doesn’t really add speed, but allows us to maintain the speed with substantially less power. We have been flying in 15-20 knots of true wind. It maybe possible to run at higher speeds in higher winds, but we have not been able to test this. Have a look at interview 3 with Captain Boomies where we discuss this.
Thanks
Steve
