Talk #03 | Captain Boomies interviews Captain Steve

December 5, 2025 |

Life in the middle of the Atlantic has its own rhythm, and in this conversation with Boomies, Captain Steve shares what the last few days on board 100% have really been like. They talk through the swell, the miles covered, the wins and mishaps with the kite, and the everyday maintenance that comes with a long passage.

Watch the full interview and continue following the crossing as it unfolds on Silent Atlantic.

We are grateful to be sharing this journey with the exceptional @captainboomies. Stay tuned for the next talk!

  1. I’m trying to figure out a way to gain more energy in a transatlantic crossing so it’s not stressful trying to budget the energy. The other day, when the other three gentlemen were in teleconference, I mentioned the Archimedes screw type wind turbine, of which two could be placed in the stern corners of the fly bridge in the initial construction of a new boat which would generate energy around the clock. We discussed the Sharrow propellers that claim to increase fuel efficiency/save electric energy that can extend the range and use less battery. I believe the people at Sharrow propeller are working on a setup where one of the two propellers can be shutdown, allowing the water flow to spin backwards over the propeller to generate energy. If it’s not too taxing on the Silent Yacht’s electric motors to alternate running and shutdown for a trip, electricity could be generated from the propellers. Maybe a low speed hydrofoil or hydro-wing could be fitted under each of the catamaran’s hulls if you could find something that can help under lower speeds. Tesla has a new battery they’re working on, a new long-range battery tech, primarily featuring higher-energy-density Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt (NMC) cells from LG and new nickel-based chemistries, is boosting range significantly in updated Model 3 and Model Y variants, with new versions offering over 800 km (CLTC) or 400+ miles (EPA) range, better daily charging limits (90% SOC), and increased efficiency for longer distances without larger packs. Another type of battery is the Sodium Ion battery, which is cheaper than Lithium and have a significantly faster charge rate, with some nearing full charges in under five minutes. Which means you’d be fully charged the entire trip with just solar, not to mention if you added wind or Sharrow hydro-generating propellers. Just some ideas and no reply is necessary, I just had to get it out of my brain.

    • Hi Jay, happy to respond!

There are lots of ways to improve efficiency and many views on new technology that is emerging. Most of our clients won’t do transoceanic passages, but cruise for a few hours every day enjoying the silence of our yachts.
Every time we change a component, we have to fully test the new configuration and ensure total compatibility. We run the risk of different EMI and software changes, differnt battery chemistry etc. Our yachts have proven silent solar electric propulsion, and our R&D team are constantly working with our supply chain to incorporate new technology. Consider that when we have an option for a reliable new solid-state battery that is proven, we still have a 24-month window to gain the necessary EU and CE approvals etc.
Sharrow does have an interesting option, but we operate a much lower RPMs than conventional vessels and have a different requirement for our propellers.

We continue to strive to lead the world in solar electric yachting and have many new ideas under test.
      We appreciate your interest.

      Thank you
